We’ll kick off the new WPNG season with “The Science of Happiness : What it’s all about.”
The new “Science of Happiness” and the growing field of positive psychology have been attracting lots of media attention recently, but is there substance in all the hype? Happiness has been studied for millennia by philosophers and other scholars, but can it be studied as a science? What is the research all about? Can it really make you happier for the long term? This talk will first give a broad scope of the field of positive psychology and then present in greater detail one area of research where simple techniques yield promising results.
After her successful talk about “Choice” last year, we welcome back guest speaker and WPNG vice-president Evie Rosset. Evie is a cognitive psychologist and earned her PhD from Boston University where she is an adjunct professor. In France, she does research through affiliations with the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and the Université Pierre Mendès-France in Grenoble. She is the founder of the Center for Positive Psychology in Lyon and gives workshops to help businesses and individuals. More information can be found at www.positivepsychology.fr.
Please bring HEALTHY snacks and drinks to the meeting. Home-made quiches, cakes and other dishes are always appreciated and the purchased varieties are welcome too.Back to events page
